Outside in – RADAR & Kunsthal Mechelen

Outside In 2026
Group exhibition, Mechelen, 16–26 April 2026

At Outside In, the work-in-progress festival of RADAR and Kunsthal mechelen, I presented the results of a residency at RADAR across two rooms. Together they showed a shift in my practice: from textile as an autonomous material to textile that sounds.

During the opening, performer Mirthe Dokter activated the work in a textile costume with integrated sound, created during a residency at Werktank Leuven.

Room 1 – Textile
The first room brought together textile works from 2025: knitted, sewn and made in needle lace. They show the repetition and attention of the handmade process.

Room 2 – Textile and sound
The second room showed my new works from 2026, in which textile and sound come together for the first time. Small speakers, sensors and electronics are worked into the knitting and crochet, so the sound does not come from outside the work, but from within the material itself. Among the works was Cracking: two hanging textile panels that respond to visitors with the sounds of a surface under tension.

Moving from one room to the other, visitors could follow two years of my process.

An initiative by RADAR and theater arsenaal, in collaboration with Kunsthal Mechelen, Cultuurcentrum Mechelen, RITCS and BiLT, a project of TheWorkshop.
