Cracking
Series of textile sound installations, 2025–2026
Cracking is a series of textile and paper works that react to the presence of visitors. Knitted, crocheted and sewn surfaces hang under tension; sensors, small speakers and electronics are worked into the material. As someone approaches, the works respond with micro-sounds: friction, resonance, the sound of a surface under strain. The closer you come, the more the cracks increase.
The series was developed during residencies at RADAR Mechelen and Werktank Leuven in 2025 and 2026. At the opening on 16 April 2026, performer Mirthe Dokter activated the work in a costume created at Werktank Leuven.
